Following the releases of tapes for The Worms and Pete Astor, we are pleased to announce the cassette release for Dunes’ new album, Bitter Charm.

Based out of L.A, Dunes features members of indie punk luminaries Mika Miko and Finally Punk. Bitter Charm is their second album and we are privileged to release it in a strictly limited run of 50 cassettes. These will be available to purchase directly from us, the band, and select record stores in the US and UK.

Bitter Charm, which was produced by Alex DeGroot, sees real movement in Dunes’ sound: there’s an opening of sound and sharpening of songwriting and production, and, in our humble opinion, the album serves as their most complete artistic statement yet. Having taken influence from acts including The Cure and Cocteau Twins, Dunes claim the album ‘celebrates nostalgia for its contribution to the present, and what it takes to arrive at where we are each day.’

You can hear Runner, the first single to be taken from the album, via Noisey, here. You can pre-order a copy from our Bandcamp now.

New Year New Party

We’re super excited to announce we will be putting out a cassette by one of our favourite bands:  THE WORMS!

Consisting of members of Primitive Parts, Cold Pumas and Primetime, The Worms began playing in 2014. ‘Everything In Order’ is their first release, squeezing in an impressive 12 songs in 20 minutes. Full-length? Mini-album? Who the fuck knows. Either way, it’s great and we can’t wait for people to hear it.

We are throwing a party on 30th January at the Shacklewell Arms to celebrate the release. Accompanying The Worms will be two newly-formed bands: Totally (playing their first show) and Boys Forever.

Spilt Milk

We are very excited to say that we are releasing Pete Astor’s new album, Spilt Milk, on cassette on January 8th. This follows the release of ‘The Living Room’ and ‘Damp Jungle’ – two archive tapes featuring Pete that Negative Space put out towards the end of 2015 (You can still buy both of these releases here).

A stripped back affair showcasing some of Pete’s best songwriting yet, Spilt Milk was recorded onto 1/2 inch tape with the help of James Hoare (of Veronica Falls and Ultimate Painting). ‘Mr Music’, the lead track from the album was released towards the end of last year.

You can pre-order the Spilt Milk cassette here and catch Pete and band playing live on Thursday 7th January (at the Lexington) and Thursday 14th January (at Rough Trade East).

As you may have noticed, we recently released two archive recordings. One was by The Living Room, and the other by Damp Jungle. (You can buy both releases here.)

This Saturday at 7:00pm, Pete Astor – who fronted both bands – is performing a free in-store at Flashback Records in Shoreditch to celebrate the releases. Pete and band – which includes Pam Berry of Black Tambourine, Jack Hayter of Hefner and Susan Milanovic of Feathers – will be playing songs taken from both cassettes.

As if Pete’s awesome music wasn’t enough to encourage you down, the lovely folks at Flashback are GIVING AWAY FREE BEER at the performance. The feedback for the releases has so far been fantastic and we’re psyched at having been able to release the tapes, so we’re super excited about this event.

We’ll see you on Saturday, but until then, here are some recently rediscovered photos of both bands, taken from Pete’s archive. They include set lists, university cards, live shots and a poster for a show with Testcard Girls, who would later become Tallulah Gosh. So cool!

You can now pre-order the Damp Jungle and The Living Room tapes in our online store. You can get them separately but also together in a nice little bundle 🙂 Just click here!

The tapes will be officially out on Monday June 8th, but some copies will be available this weekend at New York PopFest, and also next weekend at The Loft’s show at The Lexington (London).

There will also be a very special launch event on Saturday 13th June at Flashback Records (Shoreditch) where Pete Astor will be performing songs from both bands. More details coming soon!

Damp Jungle and The Living Room were two early 1980s projects by Pete Astor, who would later form The Loft (one of the first bands in Creation Records) and The Weather Prophets (on Creation as well).
